Interruptions of a person’s breathing that can last as long as 10 full seconds can occur when a person is sleeping. This is a problem that can happen when the airway is blocked or obstructed partially, and it can also occur when the blockage or obstruction of the airway is complete.
In serious situations where there is complete blockage of the airway, the person can experience hundreds of interruptions in breathing in a single night.
A person’s blood pressure will often rise higher and the heart will often have to pump much harder when they have sleep apnea. This is a problem that is caused due to the decrease in their blood oxygen levels due to the symptoms of sleep apnea.
This can cause restless sleep, drowsiness during the daytime, increased blood pressure, increased risk of a stroke or heart attack and an enlarged heart. Each of these are serious problems that can have a huge impact on the overall quality of a person’s life.
A person’s blood sugar can increase and cause diabetes. This is due to the continued production of adrenalin due to the lack of oxygen the body is receiving.
